Flash

Here's another sketch image from my Justice League Big 7 Redesign deviation:


Notes: Flash is a long time favorite of mine. I love how he's constantly underestimated by the bad guys when put next to Superman or Martian Man Hunter in spite of the fact that he's easily one of the most powerful heroes in the DC-verse. The Justice League episode where he circles the Earth over and over to break off the Brainiac armor from Luthor was epic. That scene actually inspired the lightning crackling off of him in this sketch. Makes me wonder if friction against the air can eventually charge up enough static electricity to actually cause those kinds of sparks.

Anyhow, even though he's still bulky here by normal standards, I wanted to make Flash visibly slimmer than the other League members since his key power is speed and not strength. I placed goggles and a mouth guard on him essentially covering his entire face - though it's a departure from the classic design, I always wondered how Flash might need those things to cover his face since he can quite possibly run into things like bugs on his runs (ever see the front of your car after going down a California highway in the summer?) and at the speeds his going at that might effectively turn them into deadly projectiles. That's not even including how he breathes in at those speeds; I'm sure DC has an actual explanation but it's fun to think outside the usual canon sometimes. Also added a bit of armor on him which was actually inspired by the DC Universe Online trailer. Looking forward to working on this again actually.

Will do a render pass on these sketches when time allows and the mood hits me. In the meantime, hope you all like.
